Applications for Using Molasses Tanks on the Farm

There are very good returns from the use of molasses in cattle producing areas and further suggested applications for molasses tanks are; storage on the farm or by the main operational centre, or most commonly in the paddocks near where the livestock are grazing. Typically, beef farmers use molasses tanks as storage, however, our tanks are also used by dairy farmers. Molasses can also be used as a dry feed supplement for sheep and in some cases, for pigs and poultry, though this is not as common.

A poly molasses tank is used as this is a non-corrosive material and molasses especially if there is urea mixed with the molasses it can be very corrosive to steel and concrete. The appearance of a molasses tank may be similar to a water tank but in fact the walls are designed and manufactured much thicker to adhere to the specific requirements of molasses storage.

Molasses is a significantly heavier product than water, so the traditional water tank is not suitable. Our molasses tanks are built to hold molasses. You do not want to risk losing a tank full of molasses by using a tank that is not suited to that purpose. If there is a spill and the tank is in an environmentally sensitive area, then there may be a clean-up cost associated with any spill encroaching on your valuable time.

The bulk storage of molasses allows for the use of bulk handling equipment. This can improve the efficiency of the farming operation and allows the product to be used with large numbers of livestock in order to improve your operations and support your livestock.

Molasses is used extensively as a feed supplement in the cattle industry to maximise the calorific value of due feed during the dry season. Dry feed is a very good feed, however, to get the best return there is a need to boost the value of that feed. In effect it allows the super-charging of dry feed. In addition to urea, molasses can have other minerals such as calcium and phosphorous.
