How To Prepare For Your Steel Tank Delivery
Watch our informative video for a step-by-step guide to preparing your site before your new steel tank arrives.
Bushmans also supports customers with clear site preparation guidelines, ensuring the best foundation for long-term tank performance. Correct base preparation reduces erosion risk, protects the liner, and maximises the lifespan of your investment.

For the best results:
- Ensure the site is level, stable, and free from debris.
- Lay a 150mm thick base of crusher dust or clean sand, compacted firmly and extending at least 1m beyond the tank diameter.
- Place a geotextile layer between the base material and liner to prevent moisture build-up and protect the tank.
- Add aggregate around the tank circumference after installation to reduce erosion.
Taking the time to prepare properly means your Aqualine steel water tank will perform at its best and deliver reliable storage for years to come!
Applications of Steel Water Tanks
Our galvanised steel water tanks are versatile, offering durable and cost-effective solutions for a wide range of applications across Australia:
Rainwater Storage and Harvesting
Ideal for residential, agricultural, and commercial properties, galvanised steel tanks provide a reliable way to collect and store rainwater. This reduces dependence on mains water, lowers water bills, and promotes sustainable water use practices in Australia’s varying climates.
Stock Water Systems
Farmers and rural properties can use these tanks to ensure a steady supply of clean water for livestock. The large storage capacity of up to 360,000 litres makes them perfect for drought conditions and reticulated stock watering systems.
Stormwater Retention
Designed to manage stormwater runoff, these tanks help prevent flooding and erosion by capturing excess water during heavy rains. They are commonly used in industrial, urban, and commercial settings to reduce environmental impact and comply with local council regulations.
Industrial and Commercial Storage
With their robust galvanised steel construction, these tanks are perfect for mining operations, factories, and large-scale commercial projects. Applications include process water storage, chemical storage, and even the storing of liquids used in production or fire suppression systems.
Firefighting Water Storage
Essential for bushfire-prone areas, our galvanised steel tanks for firefighting can store large volumes of water to support fire suppression systems. These tanks are ideal for farms, rural properties, and industrial sites requiring fire protection. Bushmans’ Aqualine firefighting tanks are fitted with Storz fittings to meet local fire authority requirements, ensuring compliance and safety.
Benefits of Our Galvanised Steel Water Tanks
A benefit of a metal tank vs a poly tank is that they are erected onsite and can fit in those hard-to-reach places. Aqualine steel tanks can even be built inside. Another key feature of a metal rainwater tank is the thick galvanised or Colorbond® steel walls. Our signature ribbed design compliments the popular Australian country galvanised shed. This is a heritage we are proud of and have emulated in our galvanised water tank. If you would prefer your tank to suit your specific surroundings, Colorbond® colours are available to match your roof, fences or shed.
Strong, bolted walls to provide maximum strength
The Aqualine steel tanks for sale provide maximum strength and storage volume, obtaining the full wall height with only one horizontal joint. The joints are strong and have two rows of 12mm high tensile galvanised bolts for highest strength. The large metal roof trusses are galvanised and hot-dipped for strength. The roofs are designed to be walked on, adding to the practicality and long-term confidence Bushmans is known for.
Specialised galvanised Steel Water Tanks
Our range of galvanised Aqualine tanks offers the option to design specialised steel water tanks which includes a wide range of fittings. Limited space is not a problem for metal tanks as we can design and build a tall steel water tank with a narrow footprint.
Our Aqualine steel water tanks come with a galvanised finish which is a silver stainless steel colour as well as a range of Colorbond® colours.
Advantages of Steel Water Tanks
- They can store large volumes of water – up to 360,000 litres
- Large water volumes mean the cost per litre of storage can be lower
- They are erected on site, so a large tank can be installed in places with limited access, including indoors.
- Comes standard with quality fittings, including chrome-plated valves, heavy-duty access hatches, and removable galvanised ladders.
Who Should Use a Steel Rainwater Tank?
Just as there are many applications for our galvanised steel water tanks, there are also many people who can benefit from their usage. Rural properties and farms can utilise our steel water tanks for the home, garden and general rainwater harvesting. Hobby farmers can utilise large water tanks to increase the volume of water available for their reticulated stock watering systems.
Commercial and government organisations such as schools, universities, local governments, commercial buildings and industrial customers can also benefit from the use of rainwater harvesting with an Aqualine steel water tank.
