Advantages of Slimline Water Tanks for Urban Rainwater Harvesting
Bushmans’ slimline water tanks are purpose-built for tight spaces, offering reliable water storage without taking up unnecessary room. Unlike traditional round poly tanks, slimline tanks are designed to fit down the side of a house, against a fence, or next to a shed—making them ideal for urban homes, small backyards, and unit blocks.
Smart Use of Space with Lasting Durability
With the best ratio of water storage to footprint, slimline tanks are ideal where space is limited. They sit neatly alongside buildings and don’t intrude into outdoor areas. Made from Bushmans’ Sunsmart® UV-stabilised polyethylene, our slimline poly water tanks are tough, durable, and built to handle the harsh Australian sun. All tanks come with a 10-year guarantee.
Rainwater harvesting in the City
Slimline tanks make it easy to capture rainwater from your roof for use around the home or garden. Whether you’re topping up the pool, watering plants, or flushing toilets, you’ll reduce mains water use and lower your bills. In cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra, Bushmans’ compact water tanks support efficient rainwater harvesting while helping to reduce stormwater runoff—contributing to more sustainable water use in built-up areas.
How Do You Maintain and Clean a Slimline Water Tank?
While Bushmans’ slimline water tanks are designed for low maintenance, regular checks will help ensure your tank performs well over the long term—especially in Australia’s variable climate.
- Inspect your tank, pipes, and fittings every 3–6 months
- Keep gutters and strainers clear of leaves and debris
- Ensure the inlet, overflow, and outlets are not blocked
- Check for UV damage or signs of wear in high-exposure areas
- If using pumps or filters, give these a regular once-over
Over time, organic matter like leaves, dust, or pollen can make its way into your tank, forming a layer of sediment or sludge on the base. While this build-up is common and usually slow, it’s best to remove it every few years—especially if your tank is used for household purposes like laundry, toilet flushing, or irrigation.
- Drain the tank fully before cleaning to access the inside safely
- Use a hose or pressure washer to rinse the walls and base—avoid using detergents or harsh chemicals, as these can contaminate your water supply
- Gently scrub with a soft broom to remove stubborn sediment if needed
- Flush out the dirty water completely after cleaning
- Inspect filters and first flush diverters, and clean or replace them as needed
After cleaning, allow the first flush of rainwater to bypass the tank using a diverter system—this helps prevent any contaminants from entering the clean tank. If you’re unsure or if the tank is large and difficult to access, consider hiring a professional tank cleaning service.

Slimline Rainwater Tank Capacities
Our range of slimline water tanks come in a range of capacities – from 660L to 5,000L – allowing for a wide range of applications, from being installed at the back of your residential home or in your garden, to the sides of a commercial building.

The 660L slimline water tank is our smallest slimline tank available, which is perfectly suited to smaller homes where there isn’t a lot of space available. This super tank is of a shorter height than the other slimline tanks, coming in at just 0.92 meters.

This 1,000-litre modular slimline rainwater tank has a specific design: it allows the user to easily increase the storage capacity by attaching any number of additional modules of the same size and design. This means that you can add as many of these modular slimline tanks to your water tank system as your space will allow.
This slimline tank is tall for its storage capacity, standing at 2.08 meters, but has a relatively short length at just 0.81 meters. This makes the 1,000-litre modular slimline rainwater tank perfect for installing along the sides of a building.

While the Bushman Tanks range of water tanks contains two slimline tanks with a capacity of 1,000L, they differ in design and space dimensions. This particular version of the 1,000-litre slimline tank (with the product code TSL220) is the taller of the two slim water tanks, with a height of 2.03 meters in size, but has a shorter length. The super slim tank with these dimensions is only available in South Australia, Victoria and the Northern Territory.
You can learn more about our 1,000L slimline water tank (TSL220) here.

This is the second option available for a 1,000L capacity slimline water tank. While being able to store the same volume of water as the TSL220 model, this slimline water tank is slightly shorter standing at just 1.62 meters. It, however, makes up for it with a greater length. Both the TSL220 and TSL230 models have a similar width of 0.61 meters and 0.62 meters respectively.

Our 2,000L slimline water tank allows for even more water storage than the smaller slimline tanks available, but it provides the benefit of being compact enough to squeeze into tight spaces in urban or residential areas. While maintaining its slim design, this model’s slim water tank has a longer length than other slimline tanks in our range, with a length of 2.29 meters.

In the instance where there is limited height to install a water tank, the underdeck tank is optimal, allowing small farms and domestic households to take advantage of rainwater harvesting. The underdeck water tank allows for the option to store water under the deck, thus offering a reasonable water storage capacity whilst taking up minimal space. The 2,100-litre underdeck tank is rectangular in structure and can be used singularly when space is restricted. If space is somewhat tight but spacious enough, multiple underdeck tanks can be placed next to each other to significantly increase water storage volume whilst utilising every inch of space in the most efficient manner.
For detailed information on Bushman’s underdeck tank, please see here.

This 3,000L slimline water tank has the same design as its 2,000L counterpart, but with even larger dimensions, for when there is more space available. As with the other slimline water tanks in our range, this water tank comes in a range of colour options in order to best suit the aesthetic of your building. This particular model is widely available across Australia.
You can learn more about our 3,000L slimline water tank here.

Our 5,000 slimline water tank is the largest slimline tank available in our range, allowing for the highest volume of water storage while maintaining a slim design in order to fit into those tight spaces. You’ll find that this tank isn’t much taller than its slightly smaller counterparts, but is rather a longer slimline water tank, with a length of 3.34 meters.
