Product Specification Overview

Tank selection is built around the specifications of the products or liquids that are to be stored.

The information below provides information to help with the selection of the right tank for a particular application.

Chemical Resistance:

A comprehensive listing of chemicals that may be suitable for storage in our chemical tanks is available from our web site – Chemical Resistance.  There is also a Chemical Resistance chart that is downloadable. We recommend that you discuss your specific chemical storage needs with a Bushmans sales consultant to ensure you select the correct chemical tank design that best suits your application.

Raw Material :

We use and recommend colours for chemical tanks that are opaque, using a base polyethylene that has achieved a hoop design basis of 8.62Mpa and meets the material requirements of the Australian Standard – AS/NZS4766 Chemical Tank standard. The polyethylene that BUSHMANS uses is an advanced generation Linear Medium Density Polyethyelene (LMDPE) material that is one of the most inert plastics available. It has been specifically formulated for our rotational moulding process.

Tank specific gravity ratings are based on continuous liquid product contents operating temperature of 23°C. Higher operating temperatures are possible, as long as the tank design incorporates the effects on the polyethylene over the design life of the tank For temperatures between 23°C and 40°C, please contact a Bushmans sales consultant. Any application with a continuous service temperature above 40°C is not recommended for polyethylene tanks.

The tanks cannot be pressurised. They are all designed to operate at atmospheric pressure. Vacuum must equal zero.

Proper venting alleviates pressure or vacuum from developing as the tank is filled or emptied. We would recommend that a vent should always exceed the size of the largest fill port or outlet/discharge fitting. Note that 2 x 25mm diameter vents do NOT equal 1 x 50mm vent capacity Review the chemical being stored to confirm if it can be vented to atmosphere or if it needs treatment prior to venting.

Tank Roof Loading:

DO NOT stand or work on tank roof. The surface is flexible and slippery and a dangerous fall could occur.

Above Ground installation:

Tanks are specifically designed for above ground use. They cannot be buried because the weight of the ground around the tank can cause the wall to collapse. If you have an application for a below ground tank please contact a Bushmans sales consultant.

Plumbing / Flexible Connections:

Polyethylene tanks expand and contract which will affect volume. The degree in which this occurs depends on the size of the tanks, wall thickness, specific gravity (or relative density) of contents, temperature of contents and ambient temperatures Allow for tank expansion / contraction and reduce pump / piping vibrations stresses. Refer to our guide Flexible Connections, for more information.

Flexible connections or couplings are required on any fitting connection in the lower 1/3rd section of the tank side wall to protect your guarantee.

Service Guarantee:

Most Industrial tanks come with a 5 year Guarantee.
