Wollongong is the major industrial centre on the South Coast with a population of around 300,000 people. Starting in the Illawarra region, you’ll come across the following towns as you travel down the coast:

The 800 to 1300 mm of rainfall per annum is fairly evenly spread over the year. This pattern is ideal for water tanks and rainwater harvesting. The many smaller rural holdings on the South Coast are very reliant on tanks for rainwater storage.

This region is characterized by mixed farming; including cropping, horticulture, grazing and hobby farms. With a relatively spread out pattern of rainfall, this area is ideal for the use of rainwater tanks. Their use not only better serves the environment by catching rainwater for later use but can also drastically reduce water bills. Dairy farming is highly prevalent in this area: a practice which requires high volumes of water to sustain a healthy cow population and supply of milk.
