Rainwater Tanks

• Why would I buy a rainwater tank?

If you are not connected to mains water then rainwater is a very good way to provide clean water. If you are connected to mains water then the tank water gives you the freedom to use your water when and how you choose.

• How much water do I need?

The amount of water you need will depend on what you are planning to use the water for. See the BUSHMANS water use and tank calculator. 

• How much water does my roof collect?

The amount of water collected is a combination of your roof area combined with the amount of rainfall received. See the BUSHMANS water use and tank calculator. 

• What size tank do I need?

The BUSHMANS tank calculator will work out the amount of water collected and will recommend a tank size.

• What do I sit my tank on and how do I prepare the site?

Your tank needs to sit on a bed of reinforced concrete or compacted crusher dust or sand. See the BUSHMANS Six Step Tank Installation Guidelines.

• What does my tank come with?

Tanks above 5000 litres come with a ball valve, overflow, strainer and flex hose kit. Tanks 5000 litres and below come with ball valve, overflow and leaf strainer.

• Do I need state or local government approval to install a rainwater tank?

Most state and local governments support the saving of water and the installation of tanks. The requirement for government approval varies between local government areas and you need to consult with your local government authority for approval processes.

• Do I get a rebate for installing a rainwater tank?

Please refer to our information section on rebates. In addition you will need to contact your local government and water authority to confirm the current rebate or subsidy.

• Can I drink water from my rain water tank?

BUSHMANS tanks are made of plastics approved to hold drinking water (AS4020), however local governments and water authorities do not recommended using rainwater for drinking, for cooking and personal washing where there is reticulated water available. There are filtering and water treatment systems which will allow you to use rainwater for domestic purposes. Please consult your local council or water authority.

• When can I use water from my rainwater tank?

The rainwater you catch is your water and you are able to use this for any purpose you wish, whenever you like. If your water tanks system is connected to the mains water system then there are some restrictions. Please consult your local authority.

• Do I need a pump?

It is recommended to use a pump so your tank water has the same pressure as mains water.

• Do I need to cover my pump from the weather?

Most quality pump manufacturers recommend that you protect your pump from the weather elements to extend the working life of your pump.

• What is the guarantee on my rainwater tank?

BUSHMANS offer a 10 year guarantee on its range of rainwater tanks. See the Guarantee section.

• What type of flexible hose connection do you recommend to ensure my guarantee is validated?

BUSHMANS can supply an approved flexible hose along with connections, normally at no additional charge, when you purchase your tank. Please check with your local sales office.

• Do I need to have my tank and systems maintained?

It is recommended you maintain you tank and system by regular cleaning of debris and pests. See the Tanks Maintenance section.

Industrial Tanks

• How are industrial tanks different from water tanks?

Industrial tanks have a number of features that make them suitable for their application. Generally industrial tanks are made with thicker walls and have specialist fittings.

• What liquids can I store in an industrial tank?

There are many chemicals that can be stored in a BUSHMANS industrial tank. Please contact BUSHMANS with the details of the liquid you require stored and we will let you know if our tanks are suitable.

• How do I design an industrial tank?

Generally each industrial tank is unique with a wide range of specialist fittings. If you provide a specification of what you want to store and how you want get the liquid in and out of the tank, BUSHMANS will design a tank that meets your needs.

• What comes with an industrial tank?

Each industrial tank is unique. They start with a blank tank and then you add the fittings required.

• What is the guarantee on an industrial tank?

A BUSHMANS industrial tank has a full and comprehensive five year guarantee.

• What do I sit an industrial tank on?

We recommend that your industrial tank be placed on bed of reinforced concrete. However it is also possible to place on compacted crusher dust or sand, with due care and maintenance. 

• How do I connect an industrial tank?

An industrial tank will need to be connected using a flexible connection system along with any specialist fittings used in the manufacture of the tank.
